Current Situation of COVID-19 in Thailand
According to the Ministry of public health, COVID-19 will be downgraded from a “dangerous” infectious disease to a “need to be monitored” infectious disease from October, because the virus situation in the country has begun to stabilize.
Health minister anutin charnvirakul said that this measure will eliminate COVID-19 from the same category of plague and smallpox to the same level of influenza and dengue fever to reflect the reality of Thailand.
Anudin said in a statement that the move reflected the readiness of Thailand’s health system, the availability of treatment and the “appropriate self-protection behavior” of the people throughout the country. He said that Thailand will also adjust the National Post pandemic management plan to allow private hospitals to start purchasing antiviral drugs directly “soon”, rather than through government channels.
The authorities said last week that the number of severe COVID-19 cases and deaths should begin to decline in mid August. Thailand lifted almost all travel restrictions and outdoor mask regulations on July 1.
