Road Facilities are Equally Important to Traffic Safety
Many national road safety strategies emphasize that people should be aware of their responsibilities on the road, but it is often easy to forget the importance of the road in road safety. Many highway engineers will forget that the road itself will also cause certain traffic accidents and consequences. They believe that their responsibility is to build roads that can carry a lot of traffic and withstand extreme weather in the next 20 years, and underestimate the importance of their work in reducing road accident injuries. Research shows that up to 30% of road traffic accidents are caused by the road itself and its interaction with road users.
Taking the road construction site as an example, too many engineers fail to realize that many wrong driving (at least in part) of drivers are caused by engineering defects. For example, warning signs are not placed at necessary locations, vehicles are introduced into closed lanes with short cones, or workers are allowed to enter without necessary personal protective equipment.
Engineers who pay attention to the road safety of the construction site and the safety and well-being of construction workers will take safety measures to provide clear signboards, clear route signs and obvious and reasonable speed limit signs for the construction site. It is neither difficult nor expensive to do this. This needs to follow some basic guidelines and can be achieved at a lower cost.
